I’ve been around long enough to have lived through any number of end-of-the-world prognostications – Christian, Mayan, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Y2K. The book Chacon mentions, Earth’s Final Hour, was inspired by the actual 1970s tome The Late Great Planet Earth, which compared current events of the time to Biblical references and predicted the Second Coming of Christ in the 1980s. It was the first Christian prophecy book to be picked up by a secular publisher. It was also made into a movie with Orson Welles narrating in his best “voice-of-God” style. The book sold 28 million copies. I may need to reconsider my choice of genres.
